how to live in alignment with your design. part 1: moon magick
Subconsciously, we all yearn to live by the moon. Most of us live by it without consciously realising it. The moon is a part of the natural 'clock' of the world. When you look at the sky, think of it has looking at a massive clock. Mother Nature lives by the moon, the sun, and the energies of the universe daily. Yet why do most humans think that the moon has no major affect on them other than to tell us when it is night. We are not separate to Mother Nature- we are her children.
I assume because you are reading this blog post, it is because you are interested in learning more about how you can consciously live by the moon. This is a general guide to living by the moon. I have provided the names of topics and resources that you can research if you wish to expand on these topics.
So without further ado, here are my tips and guidance on how to get started on living and loving by the moon in order to live in alignment with your soul.
tip #1 - learn the phases of the moon
Firstly, I recommend learning the 8 phases of the moon. Each phase holds and projects different energies. Think about how the full moon affects the ocean tide. The energies are telling us at a subconscious level, which activities are best performed at the time of the specific moon phase. For example, the new moon is the beginning of the cycle, so it is a perfect time for 'planting the seed' (whether that be metaphorically or physically). The moon phases are a result of the changing angles between the sun, earth and the moon. Below are the names of the different phases:
The New Moon
The Waxing Crescent Moon
The First Quarter Moon
The Gibbous Moon
The Full Moon
The Disseminating Moon
The Third Quarter Moon
The Balsamic Moon
To find about about each moon phase, read my blog post- The 8 Phases Of The Moon
tip #2 - which element is the moon in?
Next, I recommend learning which element the moon is in. The element is also another contributing factor as to what the moon energy represents. You can determine the element by which zodiac sign the moon is in. For example:
Earth = Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo
Air = Libra, Gemini, Aquarius
Fire = Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Water = Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio
The following is a brief list of what you can expect from the energies of each element:
Earth = practical, stable, planning, focused, goals, grounding, introverted, sensual
Air = study, intellect, social, communication, networking, knowledge, extroverted
Fire = passion, courage, impulsive, extroverted, drive, creative, energetic
Water = intuitive, dreamy, home, emotional, spiritual, healing, introverted
Basically, if a moon is in a sign that is fire, the vibe of the day could be very energetic, impulsive, passionate, impatient, creative, bold, brave etc. This kind of energy compliments a new moon as it is initiating energy. Especially if it is an Aries new moon as Aries is a cardinal sign- a sign that is great with new ideas and getting things started.
We are not separate to Mother Nature- we are her children.
tip #3 - which zodiac sign is the moon in?
Each tip I am giving, is expanding from the last. Once you have gotten your head around the types of moon phases and the types of elements, then the next natural progression is to learn about each zodiac sign and its characteristics. Here is a basic list of characteristics for each sign:
Aries = Pioneer, Impulsive, Leader, Beginnings, Bravery, Boldness, Spontaneity
Taurus = Sensual, Stubborn, Steadfast, Grounding, Practicality, Stability
Gemini = Talkative, Networking, Neighbours, Short Trips, Siblings
Cancer = Home, Family, Domestic, Privacy, Nurturing
Leo = Bold, Flirty, Fun, Kids, Entertaining, Sexy, Romance, Creativity
Virgo = Organising, Fine Tuning, Decluttering, Health, Wellness, Routines, Details, Animals
Libra = Balance, Relationships, Partnerships, Justice, Harmony, Marriage, Exes, Contracts
Scorpio = Mystery, Shadow, Jealousy, Obsession, Depth, Transformation, Taboo, Sex, Money
Sagittarius = Adventurous, Knowledge, Spirituality, Expansion, Big Picture, Travel, Study, Religion
Capricorn = Focused, Goals, Career, Identity, Work, Ambition, Legacy, Professional
Aquarius = Innovative, Progressive, Friends, Groups, Hopes, Dreams, Tribes
Pisces = Intuitive, Dreamy, Fears, Hidden, Darkest, Sensitivities, Portals, Emotions, Psychic
Basically, if the moon is in Capricorn, it's element is earth. If the moon is also a new moon, its energies felt are new beginnings for goal planning, career ambitions, identity and professional life. This is a time to plan what you want to achieve or manifest in regards to these areas during the next cycle. Of course it doesn't have to be for these particular areas. The Capricorn energies will amplify your intentions if they happen to be about your career and identity. Your rising sign in your birth chart (your sun sign can be used if you don’t know your rising) will give you are more accurate reading for particular moon phases. tip #4 - consider the type of moon and what it represents
Moving onto the types of moons, rather than the types of moon cycles. This isn't a astrological thing but more of a traditional Pagan, Wiccan, witchcraft thing. Below is a list of names according to the hemisphere and month it is in:

February = Hot Moon
March = Cooler Moon
April = Rain Moon
May = Fresh Moon
June = Middle Moon
July = Snow Moon
August = Windy Moon
September = Blessing Moon
October = 'Roo Moon
November = Running Moon
December = End of Year Moon
Northern Hemisphere
January = Wolf Moon, Fox Moon, Moon After Yule
February = Snow Moon, Hunger Moon
March = Worm Moon, Crow Moon
April = Pink Moon, Sprouting Grass Moon
May = Flower Moon, Corn-Planting Moon

October = Hunter's Moon
November = Beaver Moon, Frosty Moon
December = Cold Moon, Moon before Yule
I will delve into the characteristics of each moon in another blog post.
tip #5 - consider the other planetary alignments & what it means for your birth chart
This is where it gets very specific to you. If you want to get details about what to expect in regards to your daily life. Then it is best to consult a professional astrologer for a birth chart reading or a reading to address your specific questions relating to your human/cosmic design. When you read an astrology forecast, it is actually best to read the sign that your rising is in for a more accurate reading. Reading your sun sign's forecast is also beneficial. Here are some other components that are worth learning about when it comes to living with the flow of the moon:
Planetary alignments - "In astrology, the ten planetary bodies in our solar system each have a "personality"—a symbolic meaning and agency behind their energy. As they travel through the sky, passing through the twelve signs of the zodiac, their personality comes through in various ways." - https://www.horoscope.com/us/planets/index.html
Planetary retrogrades - "By definition, a planet is retrograde when it is moving backward in the sky. However, in astrology, the significance of a retrograde is much deep and complex than just an apparent motion." - https://www.astrology.com/retrograde
Planetary returns - "A return signifies the moment a planet travels through the zodiac and “returns” to the exact same sign and degree it was the day a person was born. Overall, returns represent a new cycle in someone’s life—the start of a new phase and the opportunities for personal growth and change." - https://www.horoscope.com/astrology/returns/
Eclipses - Solar eclipses appear at new moons and lunar eclipses appear at full moons. "Eclipses happen four to six times a year, activating the unexpected and forcing us to take swift action." - https://astrostyle.com/learn-astrology/solar-and-lunar-eclipses/
Daily magick - each day has allocated magickal characteristics that amplify intentions. These include particular elements, zodiac signs, crystals, herbs, spices, flowers, angels etc. I will do a blog post about this in the future.
Your birth chart - "A birth chart, also known as a natal chart, is a map of where all the major planets and astral bodies were located at the time you were born." - https://justastrologythings.com
time to practice moon magick
REMEMBER:
Take one step at a time when learning to live by the moon.
Write down the moon phases in your diary/calendar.
You are probably already doing it intuitively. When you feel forced or like you are swimming against the stream- this is a big indicator that you aren't in alignment.
It is ok to forget to practice. Or if you choose not to practice. It takes time to create a routine.
You do you. This is the most important piece of advice. Whichever feels right to you is right for you.
RESOURCES:
https://www.moonology.com/ is a highly recommended site to check out!
Learn about your birth chart when you click on the link. This is a trusted one that I use all of the time- https://horoscopes.astro-seek.com/sidereal-astrology-chart-calculator#birth-chart I find it is most accurate (in my opinion) to select ‘Placidus’ as the house system and ‘Galactic Center Sag 0 Degrees’ as the Ayanamsa.
Thank you for taking the time to read my blog post. I hope it was helpful to you. Please feel free to share and like it if you liked it.
Stay magickal my friend,
